I have been in a breakfast slump as of late. It seems like all I ever eat is cereal, mostly because it's convenient. But I seriously needed a break. And thus, the strawberry smoothie was born. It's creamy, summery, cold, healthy and delicious. But, I do have a bone to pick with my kitchen...
I am unfortunate enough to own a crappy blender. Among all of my lovely kitchen gadgets that I enjoy immensely, the blender is the red-headed step-child of my appliances. It sits on the top shelf where I can barely reach it because I know that I will only reap disappointment when I use it. Seriously, I've only used it a handful of times in the 4 years that I've owned it. I need to fix this problem, because I really want to make some more strawberry smoothies.
Do you have any good smoothie recipes? What's your favorite fruit combo? Do you have a good blender? Because if you do, I would love to know what kind it is so I can finally rid myself of my terrible blenderness.
Strawberry Smoothie
Adapted from Cooking by the Seat of my Pants
1/2 cup plain low-fat yogurt
1/3 cup milk
1 cup frozen strawberries
2 tablespoons sugar
Blend and enjoy! If you have a dumb blender like mine, do the strawberries in two batches.
Makes 1 smoothie.

Hey, I'm Anna. A long ago pen pal of Bretts. Anyway, I read your blogs thru his posts, I think youre wonderful and your mission is one of my own. i am typing with one hand cuz my other is holding my wiggly baby so sorry in advance for errors.
Now to get to the point. I Love vanilla yogurt. Instead of sugar, use low fat vanilla yogurt (yeah it has sugar, but leaves out that grittyness in the smoothie). I also love raspberries, or the mixed berries is always good. And add a half of fresh banana (not a whole or all you taste is banana). Yum Yum. Happy Smoothie making! (ps I freeze them for healthy popsicles for my kids)
If you're willing to spend the money for something that will last a while, a Vitamix or Blendtec is an awesome blender. However, they are super expensive, although I have a friend that owns a vitamix and he loves it. I recently bought a Kitchenaid that is good and it's cheaper than a Vitamix.
You know, I have the same issue with my blender. Blake got the magic bullet to make his protein shakes, and we use that so much now. It's not nearly as huge and easier to wash. This recipe sounds yummy :) I have a huge bag of strawberries from costco and will have to try this!
We also have a VitaMix. I absolutely love that thing! It's the ones they have at Jamba Juice. They are expensive, but totally worth saving up for.
Mmm. I especially like that there are no bananas. John and I found bags of precut fruit in the frozen fruit section (like combos of peaches, mangos, and strawberries). It makes making smoothies a lot easier. We also freeze fruit that may be close to going bad and we can't eat it quick enough to use for smoothies.
